Parental Advice: Skate Helmets and Kids

here is a great video of young skater learning a new trick.
Doran Shafer: Spring 2012

Skate Helmet Tip #1 For Parents:   Skateboarding is great for kids but all the new concrete parks present a million ways for your kids to hit their heads... super hard. Always insist that your kid wear a helmet at the skatepark. Kid's naturally want to push their skating to new limits and keep progressing. Bones heal but brains.. not so much. Don't be afraid to let your kid skate, just make sure he has a helmet on.

Most pros can tell you that the magic in skateboarding is learning a new trick.  I clearly remember the first day I dropped in on this sketchy 6 foot quarter pipe in my friend's driveway back in 1986. I remember it clear as day and it was 26 years ago. I was soo stoked. (we didn't have any concrete parks. they all shut down in the late 70's / early 80's)

I know this video is not the craziest or gnarliest skate video footage you have ever seen. It is a skate video that captures the essence of skating; self progression and taking your skating your own new level. And Doran's Dad captured it on film. Pretty cool.  Doran wears the S1 Mini Lifer Helmet
