Amelia Brodka Interview / Barcelona

Barcelona Spain

Amelia Brodka
Barcelona Interview / May 16th 2013

What is up?
I'm in the middle of a trip to Barcelona! I'm an alternate for the first ever women's x games park contest.

What is Barcelona like?
It is absolutely beautiful. The architecture and the history behind it is fascinating. Everywhere you go looks like a scene from a post card.

How is the skating?
The city is like one big skate spot! There are cool wacky ledges, gaps, and skateable art installments everywhere you go! The X Games park is also really fun!

How is the nightlife?
I'm not the best person to ask, haha. But we did go to a cool spot where the actual bar is lined with pool coping and tile and has a little skate-able corner where the bar meets the wall.

Where are you staying and who are you hanging with?
I'm staying with Hunter Long who is the other alternate.

Best story of the trip so far?
The best story I've heard on the trip is about the construction of the Sangrada Familia, an incredible church building designed by Antoni Gaudi. Construction started in 1882 and Gaudi passed away before it could be finished. It is a beautifully bizarre structure that the city is now trying to finish before 2026, the centennial of his death. But there is a lot of controversy about whether they are following Gaudi's intended design, about whether it should be granted church status and about whether it will collapse and interfere with the metro line if they continue to add to it. Google some pictures of the place, it's likely the most strange building I've ever seen.
