Vert Ripper Amelia Brodka was glad she had her helmet on.

"Thanks sooooo much for talking me into wearing a CPSC Certified helmet. I would have been significantly worse if I was wearing a soft foam helmet... Your a lifer saver!!!! - Amelia Brodka |
Name: Amelia Brodka
Age: 21
Where are you from? Poland
When did you start skating? 12 years old
First set up? Andrew Reynolds Birdhouse, with generic everything else
Where are you living now? Los Angeles
Where have you been skating? Culver City, The Block, Encinitas YMCA
Current set up? Sobriety deck, Theeve trucks, Motto griptape.
I saw the cracked helmet...How is your head?
It was bizarre, I've never cracked a helmet before! I'm so glad I wore
a CPSC certified S-One Kid Helmet, because my head would've cracked if I had
a soft foam! I was ok enough to drive back to LA from SD, and today
I'm getting through my classes ok, just a little more tired than
usual. Thanks for saving my brain, S-One!
How did you slam?
I was skating vert, trying to learn kickflip indies, I landed a set-up
air with my feet all weird, ready for a kickflip but that threw me way
off balance and i slipped out and smacked the back of my head on the
flat bottom. I was surprised that i was ok enough to just get up, but
then I saw that my helmet took all the damage for me!
Any words of advice for younger female skaters?
Wear helmets when skating vert, please! A functioning brain is more
important than looking cool.

Choosing, Ordering or Buying a Skateboard Helmet
If you are shopping for a skate helmet and are not sure which helmet is the best for you, you will be pleased to know that choosing the right helmet is as easy as 1,2,3.
Step 1) MEASURE YOUR HEAD (ie: head circumference)
What size is your head circumference? 19"? 20"? 21"? 22"? 23"?
Do you need more instructions on how to measure your head? (click here for the instructions)
Step 2) HELMET MODEL
( ie: Kid Helmet, Destro Helmet, Lifer Helmet, Big Head Helmet)
Once you figure out your head circumference? Choose a helmet model accordingly.
If your head circumference is 18" - 20.5" then the Kid Helmet will fit you nicely.
If your head circumference is 21" - 23.5" then the Destro Helmet will fit great.
If your head circumference is 21" - 23.5" then the Lifer Helmet will fit great.
If your head circumference is 23.75 - 24" then the Big Head Helmet is the best choice for you.
Step 3) COLOR... this is the easy part. Pick a color that is available.

Chad Jackson / Small Beating Skateboards
![]() |
History of Small Beating: Chad Jackson had skateboard company in the late 80′s and early 90′s called Small Beating. Actually, before that he ran a company called Swindle Skateboards. Chad was an am for Blockhead, Santa Cruz and Zorlac before becoming an early employee/friend of Foundation. Does that logo look familiar? He later had some bad blood with Swank (See Big Brother, September 1998) and he went out on his own again. We all know how good the 90′s were to vert skaters, so you can guess how that turned out. Time heals all wounds, or at least leaves an ugly scar. Chad has resurrected Small Beating Skateboards with some new product and a web site filled with Small Beating nostalgia, and nostalgia for an age yet to come. The blazing Michael Goetz photo at the top right is Chad atomizing the hand poured coping on the crazy Small Beating indoor ramp.
